Study Abroad in Costa Rica - Summer 2026!

Culture, Community, and Conservation: An Honors Study Abroad Experience in Costa Rica

Join Honors for an immersive three-week (May 29 - June 20) study abroad program in Costa Rica, designed to combine meaningful service learning with rich cultural exploration. We will spend two weeks in San José partnering with local organizations on community-based projects that foster social impact and global citizenship.
In addition to service, we will gain a deeper appreciation of Costa Rican culture through dynamic classroom sessions, museum and cultural site visits, interactive experiences in and around San José, and travel to Monteverde Cloud Forest Reserve, one of the world’s most celebrated biodiversity hotspots.
This cultural and academic engagement fulfills 6-credits of UMKC general education requirements: GECDV 208: Understanding Culture and Diversity through Study Abroad (3 credits) and GECUE 201: Civic and Urban Engagement (3 credits). Alternatively, independent study through Honors or your degree program may be possible
