Alumni

There are many ways for Alumni of the Honors Program to stay involved with the organization after they graduate. Your participation is a great asset to us and enriches the lives of our students.

Volunteer

Are you a UMKC Honors Program or Honors College alumnus who is interested in giving back to the program through volunteering? Throughout the year, the Honors Program needs alumni and friends to volunteer in various capacities.

Volunteer opportunities include:

  • Service on an Honors Program alumni panel
  • Meeting with prospective honors students at orientation and campus visit days
  • Welcoming first-year honors students at the Honors Welcome Orientation
  • Career panels and networking receptions

If you are interested in being added to our volunteer roster, email your name, contact information and professional information to honors@umkc.edu.

The Honors Program at UMKC comprises exceptionally talented faculty and students who are focused on academic excellence. With an enrollment goal of 600 students by 2024, the Honors Program is growing. These high-achieving students enhance the university community.

These students are aggressively recruited.  Your gift will help provide merit scholarships for hardworking students who need your assistance to pay for their college tuition and books, to present research at regional and national conferences, and to expand their worldviews through immersive study abroad experiences.

If you would like to explore more giving opportunities to support the Honors Program, email Honors Program Director Gayle Levy or call 816-235-5569. Thank you in advance for your support.

Charitable gifts to the Honors Program can also be made through the UMKC Foundation. The UMKC Foundation is a separate but affiliated enterprise that is devoted to raising funds for the university and for exercising fiduciary responsibility over endowments and other philanthropic investments made to UMKC.

My undergraduate scholarship allowed me to pursue my passions for scientific knowledge and mentorship without the stress of financing my education. I now look forward to attending medical school and developing those passions even further — a dream that may not have been possible without financial support.

Maria Gentry graduated from UMKC in 2017 as a Trustees’ Scholar with University Honors. She completed a dual degree in biology and psychology, and a minor in chemistry. Gentry enjoyed being involved as a campus leader in the UMKC Honors Program and Supplemental Instruction program. During her senior year, she worked as an undergraduate researcher at the Stowers Institute for Medical Research. Following her graduation from UMKC, she was admitted to the University of Missouri School of Medicine.
