Come and celebrate the capability of creative writing and reading! On Thursday, November 10, join esteemed writers Tracy Smith and Whitney Terrell for a reception, dinner and conversation from 6:00pm-8:00pm in 401 Student Union. Writers for Readers is a fundraising event that supports Literacy Kansas City and UMKC’s MFA program in Creative Writing. Six seats are reserved for honors students on a first come, first served basis courtesy of the Honors College.

Prospective Students are Invited to Attend an Honors College Informational Session

The Honors Diversity and Inclusion Advocates (HDIA) invites prospective students to learn more about the Honors College by attending one of the informational sessions on Monday, November 14 from 6:30pm-7:30pm in 260 School of Education or Tuesday, November 15 from 2:00pm-3pm in 243 School of Education.

Being in the Honors College offers many opportunities to advance both personally and professionally through internships, scholarships, exclusive study abroad programs and more.

Everyone is welcome to join the Honors College Open House!

Prospective students are invited to visit the UMKC Honors College on Thursday, November 3 from 8:30 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. Learn about the Honors College experience including admission requirements, academic interests and exclusive Honors College scholarships.

During the event, you will take a tour of campus, meet with current honors students, shadow an honors course and eat lunch in the UMKC Student Union.

The agenda for the open house is listed below:

  1. 8:30 a.m. – 9:00 a.m. – Registration in the UMKC Student Union and Continental Breakfast
  2. 9:00 a.m. – 9:15 a.m. – Dean’s Welcome
  3. 9:15 a.m. – 10:15 a.m. – UMKC Admissions/Scholarships
  4. 10:20 a.m. – 11:00 a.m. – Academic Appointment
  5. 11:30 a.m. – 12:45 p.m. – Honors Anchor H199 Course, 118 Education Building
  6. 1:00 p.m. – 2:00 p.m. – Lunch with Honors Students, Faculty and Staff/Honors Presentations
  7. 2:00 p.m. – 3:00 p.m. – Campus Tour

RSVP to Attend the Grand Opening of the Fourth Floor of Cherry Hall

The Fourth Floor Cherry Hall Grand Opening will be held on Wednesday, November 2, 2016, at 1:00-3:00 p.m. in the fourth floor lobby of Cherry Hall. Meet the faculty, staff and students of the Honors College and the departments of Philosophy and Criminal Justice and Criminology. Chancellor Leo Morton will present welcoming remarks at 1:30 p.m. Refreshments will be served.

The fourth floor renovation of Cherry Hall was a million-dollar project that started planning in March 2015 and was completed in July 2016. Come and celebrate this beautiful new space! RSVP online by Thursday, October 27, 2016.

The Order of Events are as follows:

  1. Introduction by James McKusick, dean of the UMKC Honors College
  2. Welcoming Remarks by Leo Morton, chancellor of UMKC
  3. Guest speakers including Bruce Bubacz, from the UMKC Arts & Sciences Department of Philosophy, and Kristi Holsinger, from the UMKC Arts & Sciences Department of Criminal Justice & Criminology.
  4. The Ribbon Cutting Ceremony
  5. Chancellor Morton will provide closing remarks
