The UMKC Crew Team provides students with the opportunity to learn how to row a racing shell, compete in intercollegiate regattas representing UMKC, meet new people, or just get a great workout. UMKC Crew is an official club sport sponsored by the Honors College. Dean Jim McKusick serves as the faculty advisor. All UMKC students (both men and women) are welcome to join the team.
The tiers of club membership include rowing members (those intending to row on the water during the water season and erg during the erg season) and erging members (those intending only to train on the erg machines in Swinney Recreation Center). Rowing members will be required to pay club dues to use the boats and equipment.
Erg membership includes access to erg training routines for individual training and access to erg technique training upon request. An erg membership with the UMKC Crew Team does not require the payment of dues or attendance at club meetings. It’s a great way to get started with rowing!
Rowing membership includes:
- Access to erg training routines in Swinney Recreation Center
- Training on the ergs during the cold season
- Training on the water during the warm season
- Access to coaching staff
- Opportunities to compete in intercollegiate regattas
A rowing membership with the UMKC Crew Team requires the payment of dues and attendance at club meetings.
The UMKC Crew Team meets every weekday morning at the Kansas City Boat Club boatyard and dock in the West Bottoms district of Kansas City. For more information about the UMKC Crew Team, including how to join, visit RooGroups.
Rowing was the first intercollegiate sport to be established in the United States. The first rowing race was between Harvard and Yale in 1852. Join the UMKC Crew Team and be part of this great tradition!
